Clear
Science characterizes the microstructure and macrostructure of
all types of metallic materials and components. Typical studies
include:
 |
Microstructural
characterization |
 |
Observation
of corrosion phenomena |
 |
Microstructural
changes after phase transitions |
 |
Metal
surfaces and interfaces |
 |
Cross-sections
of powder particles |
Metallographic
samples are prepared using a diamond saw with the appropriate
blade for low-stress sectioning. Polishing is done with a progammable
polishing system. Finished metallographic mounts are observed in
either brightfield, darkfield, or DIC mode using a
state-of-the art metallograph with digital imaging capabilities.
Clear Science also routinely performs SEM and EDS studies on
metallic materials using instruments at nearby facilities.
Clear
Science can also provide strength and ductility data. Our system
is particularly suited to low and medium strength materials such
as foils, wires, strip, and components.
